Web Assistant

The Web Assistant lets you:

  • Verify or test engagement rules before enabling them on your website.

  • Map UI elements on your website that have associated CSS selectors. For example, you can map items such as buttons, links, form fields, and other controls. You can then create Guide engagement rules or workflow automation triggers based on how website visitors interact with the mapped page elements.

Install the Web Assistant

To use the Web Assistant, you must first add it as a bookmark on your browser. Use the bookmark to open the web assistant on any page in your website where you have enabled Guide.

  1. Click the app selector icon of app selector and select Guide.
  2. Click Web Assistant.
  3. Click and drag the Web Assistant Plugin button to your browser's bookmarks.

Verify Rules on Your Website

By using the Web Assistant, you can verify that the conditions for a rule work as expected before deploying the rule to your website.

Prerequisites:

  1. Navigate to the page of your website where you have enabled Guide and where you want to verify that the rules works correctly.

  2. Click the Web Assistant bookmark.

The Web Assistant appears as a floating window on your website. The word Connected should appear in the title bar of the Web Assistant to indicate that Guide is enabled for the page.

  3. Click the All Rules tab in the Web Assistant to select one or more rules to verify on the current page of your website.

All of your engagement rules are listed:

    • To verify a rule, enable the toggle on the right side of the rule in the Web Assistant. Once you enable a rule, Guide tries to run it immediately. If it evaluates as true, the offer will appear on the page. If it fails, you will not see the offer.

    • To ignore a rule, clear the toggle on the right side of the rule. The blue color is removed from the toggle and the rule is no longer enabled for testing. For example, if a rule is already active on your website, you probably do not need to retest it.

Toggling rules on or off for verification on this page has no effect on whether a rule is available on your website. Use the rule builder to make rules active or inactive by setting or clearing the Enabled setting for the rule.

  4. Click Test Rules to view details about the status of the rules you ran.

Possible status values for rules are:

    • Successful: The rule evaluated as true based on the conditions for the rule.

    • Pending: The rule is pending evaluation due to there being a mapped element on the page that you need to interact with. For example, if the rule condition is Element Clicked or Element Hovered Over, then you need to click or hover over the mapped element for the rule to finish being tested.

    • Failed: The rule evaluated as false on the page. Expand the message to see why it failed. It may be that the rule assumed a different URL than the current page, or a higher cart value, and so on.

To see details about the conditions for each rule, use the expander icon Icon that is black and white and is a downward facing arrow. It appears to the right of an engagement rule.

To rerun all the rules, use the Re-Run All button. Or, to run a particular rule again, click the A black and white icon with a circle around right-pointing arrow. The icon appears to the right of the enagement rule name. icon for that rule.
